Urinal for the elderly (male)
When patients are unable to leave their beds to use the toilet, nurses should provide bedpans for their use in bed. Two types of bedpans are suitable for bedside use: a standard bedpan, made of metal or hard plastic, with a smooth, curved top and a sharp bottom, about 5 cm deep; and a more gliding bedpan, designed for patients with casts on their torso or legs, with a shallow top, about 1.3 cm deep, positioned under the buttocks towards the sacrum, and the bottom under the upper thigh. Metal bedpans should be warmed with water beforehand and then dried before use.
